Gen 39:19-20 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.
20 And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
KJV
One needs to be careful when assuming how other people think, but I wonder what was going through the mind of Joseph at this time. Like Abraham he had walked in obedience before God and that took him into a trial. Hated by his brothers, sold as a slave, Joseph remained faithful. Serving with honor in his master’s house he was falsely accused and cast into prison, what must have been going through his mind? If this is how obedience is rewarded then why obey? That would be going through my mind, if this is how obedience to God is rewarded then why obey? But Joseph remained faithful through it all and God rewarded that faithfulness beyond what Joseph could ever have imagined. Lesson for me; it is always better to obey.
