5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

I listen from time to time to the blab it and grab it crowd with their prosperity gospel and I wonder if they ever read the Bible in whole or just stay in the parts that help promote their false gospel. There is nothing better than being a Christian, the rewards even in this world outweigh anything the world has to offer. But we do need to remember that we are not promised riches in this world, prosperity in this world. In truth we are promised the opposite. (Notice verse six above.) Much affliction means exactly that. Yet our God is faithful and will not forget us in this world, will not forget our labor for Him, will not forget our love for Him. There are rewards in this world but there are far greater coming for those who know Jesus and live for Him.
