Ps 22:1-6 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
KJV
Only one individual in all of human history has cried out the words we have recorded in the first verse of this Psalm and found them true. Every lost sinner who has ever cried out to God in repentance for salvation has had God answer them, none were forsaken by God. Every believer of ever age who has cried out to the heavenly Father has received an answer and help for ever need, none were forsaken. But Jesus did cry out those words from the cross. This Psalm gives a very vivid picture of the suffering and anguish of Jesus on the cross. Nothing was more painful, nothing brought more sorrow than the truth that the Father forsook the Son as He hung on that cross. The Father could not help for then salvation would not have been. The Father had to turn away because He cannot look upon sin and while Jesus was sinless He did take on Himself our sin. You nor I will ever have to say those words, but Jesus did as He took our place. Never take salvation for granted.
