Matt 3:1-3 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
KJV
Very few people want to hold to the gospel that was preached by John today. I am not saying that we need to preach the kingdom gospel, but there is a foundational block of that gospel that is a part of salvation today that many want to ignore. John had a message of repentance and we need a message that includes repentance today. Repentance has been a part of salvation from the beginning and will be until the very end. Today people want Jesus without repenting, without turning from sin, without making changes in their lives. When there is no repentance there is no change and when there is no change there is no salvation. My Bible tells me that all things become new after salvation, but nothing will become new without repentance.
