14:1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?All the children of Israel murmured. Think of how good they had it in Egypt; they had no homes of their own, they were slaves to a pagan ruler, all the male babies were murdered, they had no hope of things getting any better. Yet as soon as the road to the Promised Land took a turn they did not like, as soon as they had to climb a hill, as soon as they had to go down into a valley, they complained about the one who saved and delivered them. Just like so many Christians today, and I am ashamed to say just like me some of the time. When we are walking with the Lord, walking through this world there is never promised to us a flat smooth road with no hills to climb, no turns to make, no valleys to go into. Yet when we go through these things we often complain. Why not think of what the Lord has delivered us from, what He has brought us through, how He has saved us and what lies ahead. If we do this we will find ourselves complaining a lot less. Just stop and think of what we would have and where we would be without the Lord.
