Gal 4:4-6 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
KJV
What events stand as the greatest in human history? Creation, the coming into the world of the Son of God, the cross where his blood was shed, the resurrection and empty tomb, the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. These stand as the greatest events in human history. One can add to the list of course, but one can never take away from those things. I want to look this week at the “Fulness of the time.” What does that phrase mean, why isn’t Jesus in the world today as He was over two thousand years ago, why was the Son of God given then, why not now? The “Fulness of the time” points first of all to the perfect time. Jesus did not come into the world one year before the perfect time, or one year after the perfect time, Jesus was given at the perfect time. The world had one government, Rome, one language, Greek. There were different countries and different languages, but one government and one common language. Rome permitted its citizens and conquered people free access to travel and made a systems of roads on which to do so, people could move freely from one place to another. Greek made it possible for all people to communicate. That made it possible for Joseph and Mary to take Jesus and travel into Egypt to escape Herod’s order to kill all the male babies in Israel. It also made it possible for them to return to Nazareth and thus fulfill Old Testament prophecy. It was the perfect time. Greek allowed the news to spread first told by the shepherds, the Messiah has been given, God is with us. It was the perfect time.
