November 15th, 2018 by Pastor SolleyLuke 18:10-12 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
KJV
Some show how unthankful they are by giving thanks. This Pharisee gave thanks for a lot of things, all centered on self, none centered on God. Have you ever found yourself doing the same thing? There are times when one is just too full of self, so full that they forget about God. The truth of the matter is that this Pharisee was exactly what he thought he wasn’t in verse eleven for that pictures the heart of every individual. (Matt 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies) If those things are suppressed it is only because you have surrendered your heart to Jesus and He suppresses them. Even for that I must give thanks to Him. Don’t be so thankful that we express it by being thankful for self.
