Acts 5:29-32
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Why ought we obey God rather than men? The apostles knew they ought to obey God rather than those who exercised power of them but why? Because God has power over all, God has authority over all, God will one day judge all. As those men stood before that council had the power to put them to death. Not long before they turned Jesus over to Rome because they did not want to get their hands bloody but the result was the same. Yet His death on the cross made Him the one that is exalted in heaven, His death and resurrection made Him Prince and Savior. As such Jesus Christ is exalted and He is the one that will judge all men. It may seem at times that the world has the upper hand but we know the day is coming when every knee shall bow before Him. So we ought to obey Him now. Stand against the world, stand apart from sin, stand out and up for Jesus now. It is what we ought to do.
