The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Solomon was used of the Holy Spirit to write thee books of the Bible, a book of love, a book of wisdom, and a book of regret. Perhaps only Psalms and the gospel of John reflect more of the heart of the man used of God than the books of Solomon. I often wonder what Solomon’s life would have been had he followed the advice he was given in his book of wisdom. (Verse 7) Somewhere along the way, somehow, Solomon lost his fear of the Lord and took on the ways of the world. This was after the book of wisdom which makes it all the more perplexing. Why not follow the advice given to him of God, why not continue always in the fear of the Lord? Before we are too hard on Solomon we might want to ask ourselves that same question. Why not walk everyday in the fear of the Lord?
