33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
KJV
I have always found it interesting that those ones who told Jesus that they “Were never in bondage to any man:” were at that very time in bondage to Rome and had been from the time they were born. They were in bondage and did not know it or chose to ignore it. Many are like that today, they are in bondage. Some are in bondage to the smart phone to the point they cannot be without it, they always have to have it in their hand and spend countless hours each day looking at that little screen. Many of my generation are in bondage to the TV, they always have to have it on, always have to be looking at that image of make believe. Some then are in bondage to drink or drugs and the like. What are you in bondage to? I would say there is something in your life that keeps you from being given to Jesus Christ as you should be and that thing, no matter what or who it is holds you in bondage. Don’t be like the Pharisees, at least acknowledge that something has you in bondage and once you see that then you can break away from it.
