15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
16 My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.
17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.
KJV
One thing that had to be watched for in caring for a vineyard were the little foxes that would come in the night and eat the tender roots of new vines, they spoiled the vine and it would soon die. Those little foxes were seldom seen, coming only under cover of darkness. They are like little sins in our lives that no one knows about, that no one sees but ourselves. We think that things hidden do no harm, but they are like the little foxes, they eat away at our spiritual vine. Soon they have become so many that they ruin us spiritually. They cannot take away our salvation, but they can make us appear dead and useless just like a dead vine in a vineyard. Beware of the little foxes in your life, they do much damage.
