Rom 6:1-5
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
KJV
Baptism serves as a motivation to live a life pleasing to the Lord Jesus Christ. Note we are to be the likeness of His resurrection. Even as Jesus had a new and glorified body when He arose from the grave we are to live a new life, one to the glory of God. We don’t do this because we have been baptized, we do it because we have been born again. Baptism is a picture of that new life we now are to live. I can ask myself then this question “Am I living up to the life I profess, am I living up to the likeness of Christ?” None of us are perfect, and there is only one Jesus Christ, but I am to live like a Christian, live like a believer in Christ, and baptism is part of that motivation.
