Gen 3:9-10
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
KJV
How do we respond when we hear the voice of God? Truth be told so few have an ear for the voice of God today that they never need even consider the question. God does speak to the listening ear today, through His Word, through preaching, God speaks to the listening ear. But how does man respond? When confronted with the Word of God man simply stops reading or he changes the Bible to say what he wants it to say. When confronted with preaching man changes churches or stops going to church altogether. But how do you respond, how should we respond to preaching, to the Word of God, to the voice of God? Adam hid because he had sinned. Later a king in Israel cut up the Word of God and threw it on the fire. How do we respond? For a preacher like me it is a pointed question, but I am not pointing to the person in the pew or to those reading the devotionals, I need first to point at myself. How often are we moved, how often am I moved to tears, driven to our knees, or how often do we call out in praise when reading and meditating upon His Word? If that is not often then we respond to the Word in the same way Adam did, we are hiding from it. I want to look the next few days at man’s response to the Word of God.
