47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
KJV
Very few things hurt as much as being betrayed by a friend, one we trust. This was not a friend telling Jesus something he needed to hear, not one telling Him something for His own good, this was betrayal of the worst kind. When I think of Jesus and what He endured on the way to the cross this is something that comes often to my mind. We all have experienced some type of betrayal at one time or another. From an enemy, from a stranger, it can be expected, but not from a friend. This is something that should come to our minds when we are tempted to sin, tempted to do something, watch something, say something that we know our Savior would not be pleased with. When we give in we betray Him and how that must hurt Him. Not as bad as what Judas did we may reason in our minds. Yet it is a betrayal and it still hurts our Lord. I need to think of how much I can hurt Him, the one who loves and died for me, then I may be stronger when I am faced with the everyday temptations of life.
