Luke 19:37-40
37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.It must have been quite a scene that day in Jerusalem as Jesus Christ, the King of Glory entered the city. The disciples I am sure were not expecting the scene that greeted them. The multitude of people came out and welcomed the Messiah, coats and palm leave made a path for the donkey to walk upon, the people rejoiced in His presence, “blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord” they shouted out over and over again. The city was moved to the point that the Pharisees ordered Jesus to quiet the people. Jesus told them if that would happen the stones would begin to sing praises to His name. The Pharisees did not want that so they did not push the issue.
Today we have the privilege of shouting out to the world, “blessed be the King”. Today we have the privilege of telling the good news of Jesus’ death burial and resurrection to pay the price for our sin. One question for you this morning; are the stones doing a better job than you are?
