20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
KJV
One does not flee youthful lusts in order to be sanctified, they flee because they are sanctified. I can’t look at my life and count myself worthy of sanctification because I have earned it, rather I am sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit and now am not, or I least I don’t have to follow after the lusts of the flesh. Yes, a large part of this rests on the believer, we must decide to be purged from vessels of dishonor as the Bible states above, but even then I don’t have to rely on my own power, my own might, I can rely on the sanctifying power of God. I stated yesterday some things I have never had to be worried about in my life, some things I have never experienced. But I need to remember that I have not overcome them, I have not overcome the world, I have not conquered the flesh, only by the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit within are those things possible. All glory and praise still goes to god the Father and His dear Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are found following after that which is named in verse 22 above give the glory to Jesus Christ and His work of sanctification in you.
