20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
KJV
There are some things that seem to get lost in preaching today. The subject of our devotional this morning is one of those, sanctification. What exactly is sanctification? It is let me say one of the foundational pillars of our faith. Sanctification is found throughout the Bible, beginning in the book of Genesis all the way through the book of Jude. Although the word may not be found the act of sanctification can be found in every book of the Bible. But what is it and why is it important? First of all it means to be set apart. If something or someone is sanctified they are set apart and set apart for a purpose. Let us go to the first use of the world sanctified in the Bible. (Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.) Here we find sanctification begins with God and it involves a setting apart. God set apart the seventh day for rest. It can also be pointed out that sanctification is an act of God. God set the day apart. It can also be pointed out that sanctification is for man. God needed no rest but set a day apart for rest. God is instituting something here, sanctification, that is from Him and for man. I want to look at this Biblical doctrine of sanctification this week and its importance. For today Christian, consider that you have been set apart. Apart from what and to what we will look at in the coming days.
