Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O Lord, thou knowest.

One of the benefits of patience is learning to trust in the Lord. (Ps 40:4) Note that individual has learned not to turn aside to lies. Many are the lies of Satan, our flesh, and even society that cause one to loose patience. One lie is that we always deserve good things to happen to us. Another is that we deserve the best that this world has to offer. Another is that God is obligated to us. All of these are lies and when believed turn people away from the Lord and even Christians away from a close walk with the Lord. Do we really deserve good things to happen to us all of the time? Or are we living in a sin cursed world where bad things happen? Do we really deserve the best this world has to offer to be given to us? Or are we to work by the sweat of our brow to gain the things we need? Is God obligated to us? Or is He the Almighty God that we will answer to one day and to whom we are obligated right now? When I believe the lies that abound it erodes my patience and makes me demanding before God. But when I place my trust in Him and wait patiently on Him it turns me away from the lies of the world. When we exercise patience it does bring us to a place where we trust the Lord.
