Titus 2:11-15
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
KJV
Not only should the Christian stand against ungodliness in these last days, as we looked at yesterday, we should also be careful not to be consumed with worldly lusts. (Verse 12) When we think of lust it is most always in the sensual realm, as it should be. But we can also lust after other things, get so caught up in the things of the world that the things of the of God gat pushed aside and even forgotten. What has your eye Christian? Our car is getting older, mileage is piling up, and while we are not actively looking for a new or different car, we have decided to keep our eyes open. I mention a certain car to my wife, that I thought would meet our needs, and we saw at a dealership so we stopped to look at it. It was after hours, we were not really shopping, just looking. We both liked the look of the car, thought it would meet our needs, but when we looked at the sticker it was almost 60K. We both looked at each other and laughed out loud. But I began counting those cars on the road and it amazes me how many of them I see. Should I want one, should I strive to get one, or should I be satisfied with what the Lord has already blessed me with and penitently wait on His blessings and provision for the future? It doesn’t have to be a car, it can be anything, but we need to realize how easy it is to be caught up in worldly lusts.
