Ruth 1:12
12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;
KJV
This is the first use of the word hope in the Bible. Naomi is returning to her homeland after great tragedy and sorrow. Her husband has died as well as two sons, she is devastated, penniless, without home or family. By her own words she went out full and returning empty, she is a woman without hope. One thing she does have is a relationship with Jehovah God, that is why she is returning home. By the end of this short book she is again filled and blessed. Friend, we are never without hope when we have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and desire to dwell with Him, to stand where He stands. Naomi is not going back to mom and dad, they are both gone. She is not going back to brothers and sisters, she has none. Naomi is going back to where Jehovah is and that is her hope. Do you hope to stand with Christ today? Is your hope to be where He is? One will never know what hope in Christ can do until we make the steps to stand where He stands, to dwell where He dwells, to be with Him. Spend time with Him today, time in His Word, time in prayer, see where hope will take you. Hope in Christ can fill us today just as that hope filled Naomi.
