Eph 5:14-16
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
KJV
We used to play a game called “Horse” with a basketball. One person would take a shot and if they made it the next in line would have to duplicate that shot. If they missed they received a letter and when one spelled “Horse” they would be out of the game. When they did miss that last shot they could shoot a “Redeemer shot”, usually a very hard one and if they made it they could take a letter off and stay in the game. Verse 16 reminds me of that game, we are to redeem the time, to buy it back. But that is impossible, once time is gone it can never be bought back, time wasted is never found again. So what is the meaning of verse 16? One should never be given to wasting time. One can redeem time in his or her life by looking at the things one does each day that waste our time. Some things we cannot help. For example I sat in in office yesterday for twenty minutes only to be informed I didn’t have to be there, it was a waste of my time. Not only was the wait wasted time, but it took me thirty minutes to drive then and then to return, it was a real waste of my time. Then there are many things we can help, things that can be eliminated that are a real time robber in our lives. Many things that waste our time, rob us of our time, are not evil in and of themselves, but they can become real time robbers. The TV for instance can be a real time robber. Most people who say there is nothing wrong with a little TV watch a lot of TV. What could be accomplished in our day, what could be accomplished for the Lord of we shut of the make believe and just did something? All of us have time robbers in our lives, what is wasting your time?
