1 Sam 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

From Samuel to David, the torch of leadership in Israel will pass, with Saul between them. Two faithful leaders will be separated by one unfaithful one. What was the difference between Samuel, David, and Saul? Samuel and David would both be men who worshipped the Lord, while Saul would be one who for the most part worshipped self. Who was most important in the lives of Samuel and David? One would conclude that the Lord was. Who was most important in the life of Saul? One would conclude that Saul was. My point is that there is no place for self in worship of the Lord. Our God is to occupy first place in out lives if we want to be known as a man or woman of worship. Who is first place in your life today? Make a list, be honest with yourself, and see where the Lord falls on that list. Then look at your life and see of your list matches the way you live. Finally, take steps to make the Lord first in your lice, then begin a new life of worship of the Lord.
