August 28th, 2017 by Pastor Solley1 Sam 3:1-4 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

The Bible here records one of the darker times in the history of Israel, the lamp of God was about to go out in the tabernacle, the temple of the Lord. This lamp was always to burn, it was never to go out for it represented the presence of the Lord, it was the only source of light in the tabernacle. Hundreds of years later Jesus would proclaim that He was and is the “Light of the world.” Today we are in a similar situation as was Israel in the days of Eli and Samuel, the light seems about to go out. What is the answer to the need of our day? It is the same as in the days of Samuel, God needs one to listen, one to hear His voice, one to stand up and make a difference. What good would one do we might ask, what could only one do? God never looks for great numbers, never looks for an overwhelming majority, God looks for one. We might understand what one can do if we would just be that one. Today we need to listen to and obey the Word of the Lord, today we need to answer the call to pray, today we need to be a Samuel. I want to look at Samuel for a few days this week, look at the one who would answer “Here am I.” Will you be that one.
