James 5:16-18 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
KJV
What can real prayer do, what can the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man do? Elijah prayed in the days of Ahab and the rain stopped for three years in Israel. So effective was his prayer that there was not even dew upon the ground all that time. Then when Elijah prayed for God to open the heavens there was a great flood. Can the same thing happen today and if it can then why doesn’t? It can happen today and the reason it doesn’t is because there are few who take the time and put the effort into prayer that Elijah did. Examine your prayer life today and see if it is lacking as is the ca with most Christians. We have the excuses of not enough time and so on and so forth, but when it comes right down to it we just don’t pray as we should. Do your prayers move the hand of God? If not the problem is not with God it is with you, it is with us.
