15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

John was rewarded with a very deep and rich prayer life and part of that was the way in which John learned to pray. John learned to pray at the feet of Jesus. (Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.) We are not told it was John who asked Jesus to teach them to pray and I cannot assume that it was. But I know John was part of that special group and that John watched as Jesus pray. John saw Jesus pray before meals, after meals, in a dessert place, in the mountains, before important decisions, at a grave, on the sea, John saw Jesus pray. John learned when to pray from Jesus, always. John learned what to pray about from Jesus, everything. John learned what to expect in prayer from Jesus, miracles. So John became devoted to prayer. If there is one thing we need to do to retain our joy in the Lord, one thing God will reward, it is prayer. Yet that is the thing most lacking in the lived of God’s people today. I say that because prayer is the one area Satan attacks most in my life. Satan will do all that he can to keep God’s people from prayer. And prayer does not appeal to our flesh at all. Yet we need to pray. If you are having difficulty with your prayer life today then follow the example of the disciples, follow the example of John. They followed the example of Jesus.
