We have above the first and last use of the word shepherd in the bible. It was an occupation that was vary familiar to the Hebrew and one linked to our Lord Jesus Christ. David saw Jesus as his shepherd in what is the most familiar Psalm, the 23rd. A shepherd was one who watched over the sheep, protected the sheep, guided the sheep, doctored the sheep, and many other things the shepherd did for the sheep. The Bible also calls mankind and the Christian both sheep, that comparison made many places in the Bible. In the New Testament there are three special ways that Jesus is pictured as a shepherd. Jesus is seen as the Good Shepherd, the Great Shepherd, and the Chief Shepherd. Is the Lord Jesus Christ your shepherd as He was David’s? If so then you need to know Him in all three was the New testament pictures Him. Lord willing we will look at these three what over the next few day. Today read and meditate upon the 23rd Psalm if He is your shepherd.
