John 17:17-21 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
KJV
Jesus prayed that all of His children would be one in truth. Wouldn’t it be wonderful of that prayer was answered on this side of heaven? The reason it isn’t is because people don’t want to be set apart for truth, set apart by the truth of the Word of God. (Verses 17-19) They are willing to be set apart by their own ideas, of the ideas of men they have idolized, by denominations they grew up in, set apart by many things, but not the truth. I often wonder what had blinded people when they are confronted with the Bible, with what the Bible clearly states, but they refuse to believe it. For example 2 Peter 3:9 states “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” I can’t read that any other way than to believe Jesus Christ died for all and wants all to be saved. Yet many try or have tried to tell me that is not so, that God doesn’t want all to be saved. The same with John 14:15 which states “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Some have tried to tell me that it doesn’t matter how one lives after they are saved, God still must do all that one asks of Him. I see that answered prayer in our lives is conditional, that God doesn’t have to do anything that we order Him to do. We are set apart, or at least should be by the truth of the Word of God and only when we follow that truth will we be one.
