John 17:8-9 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
KJV
I appreciate it when people tell me they are praying for me and they mean it. That is an easy thing to say isn’t it? That we are praying for someone, but do we really pray for them? It is like the answering machine that says “I will get back to you as soon as possible”. Seldom do people really mean that, they are just words on an answering machine. But in our text passage Jesus says that He will be praying for us, and that carries some weight. It carries weight because the Bible tells us that it is impossible for God to lie. (Heb 6:18 hat by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us) It carries weight because of the love and compassion of Jesus. It carries weight because of who Jesus Christ is. It is one thing for me to tell someone one that I am praying for them, it is another to know that Jesus is praying for us. (Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.) Even as we begin this new day we can rest assured it will be a good day because someone is praying for us.
