2 Tim 2:1-4 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
KJV
There is a call here for the Christian to be strong. (Verse 1) There is certainly a need for spiritual strength today, just as there was in that day, perhaps more so in our day. As Christians we see the every growing darkness of sin that has gripped our nation, we see our elected officials promoting sin at every turn. There is a need for strength but before we look at what will make us strong we find in these few verses some of the things that will eat away at the strength of the Christian. First, the normal wear and tear of life as I will call it. The Bible speaks of enduring hardness in verse three. Even the strongest of Christians will get worn down in the spiritual battle from time to time and it may not be huge trials that wear us down but the many smaller trials that build up eventually sapping our strength. One has to stop every little while and look to the Lord to bring us through the little things, stop and be sure that we try not take care of those things on our own. I know I need help with the big things, but I also need help with the little things and when I forget that they build up and become huge mountains in front of me. We need to endure. Also note that we are not to be entangled with the affairs of this life to the point that take us away from the Lord and serving Him. Easy to do today with all the political things we see. So many are so caught up with Fox News and CNN that they forget who is in charge of everything that takes place in this world. There are many things that will take away from the strength of the Christian, we need to be aware of them and avoid them.
