Jer 20:9-11 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
10 For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.
11 But the Lord is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
KJV
Things must have improved for the prophet after he regained his resolve right? No, for Jeremiah things remained the same, he was still despised, still persecuted, but he remained faithful. What Jeremiah could now see was the reward that awaited him at the finish line and that reward would be greater than anything temporary suffering he was called to endure. Jeremiah remained faithful until the end. There are also rewards set aside for those who remain faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ today. (2 Tim 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. ; Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.) These crows are laid up, set aside for those who finish well. Christian, we will get discouraged from time to time but we need to remember that the reward at the finish line will far outweigh any discouragement, and trials that we have to endure now. Jeremiah set his heart to finish well.
