January 23rd, 2017 by Pastor Solley2 Chron 28:1-5 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord, like David his father:
2 For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.
3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.
4 He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
5 Wherefore the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

Ahaz ascends to the throne in the southern kingdom of Judah here in 2 Chron. 28 and the Bible tells us he “Did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord”. It amazes me to look at the kings that came to power in Judah or Jerusalem. The northern kingdom had no good kings, but the southern kingdom did, men who followed after the Lord like king David did. Those men who became kings could look back and see how God had blessed when one walked in the ways of the Lord, when one followed the example of David. Ahaz father was one such king, now what would Ahaz do when he became king? Why not follow in the way of the Lord, why not walk in a way that brought blessings in the past? Ahaz had his own agenda and walked in his own way and the result of that is going to be harsh judgment from God. It is the same with nations today and the same with America today. I watched President Trump get sworn into office on Friday and I thanked the Lord then and I do today for the many times the name of Jesus Christ was heard during that ceremony, the name of Almighty God, the word creator. I pray today that this President take us back to a time when America was one nation under God and take us back into the blessings of God that made America great. Yet there were riots and protests that day and the next, people upset over the new President. What do they want? They can’t say. What has the new President done to bring such protests? They can’t say. They remind me of Ahaz looking at a way that brought blessings and a way that did not and choosing the wrong way. The past eight years have done little more than ask for the judgment of God, I pray the next four and then eight years bring the blessings of God back to America again.
