Chron 22:1-6 Then David said, This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel.
And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.
And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight;
Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.
And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the Lord God of Israel.

We stand now just a few days away from the beginning of a new year, 2017. Most born again believers my age and older never thought we would see this year that is upon us. I remember listening to preachers in the 70’s say that the rapture was so very near, and they were right. I remember the calendar turning to the year 2000 and the predictions of doom and gloom and the preaching that the rapture was so very near. People were wrong about the doom and gloom but were right about the rapture. Now we are about to usher in 2017 and I can say this morning that the rapture is near. It is certainly nearer than it was in 1972 or 2000. But what will the new Year hold for the Christian and what should the challenge of the New Year be for the child of God? The last words of David have some answers for us and that is what we find in 2 Chron 22, some of David’s last words and last acts before the kingdom was turned over to Solomon. This morning I want you to see that David was active as the end of his life approached. David was kept from building the temple by God, but that did not keep him from getting things ready for Solomon. David was near the end of his life, but he was active for the Lord, interested in building something for God. We are near the end of this age of grace, near to the rapture, all signs point to that fact. But that does not mean we rest in 2017, that means we become even more active for the Lord. Our time may be sort, but our actions are not to be. Make plans for this New Year Christian, but not plans to rest and wait, plane to build and be active for the Lord. David was active and that was a blessing and help to Solomon. What if we rest as some perhaps did as they watched the year 2000 come in, what good did that do 17 years later? We need to be active so we can help those who are following and be a testimony to them. David was active for the Lord.
