Luke 2:6-14 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Not only was that first Christmas a busy time for Mary and Joseph, it was an accomplished time. (Verse 6) What was accomplished? Many people today spin their wheels it seems this time of year, so many things to get done, they are busy, but they get little accomplished. God accomplished much that day when the Son of God was given into this world. First, Scripture was fulfilled, God accomplished His Word. If you take just eight of the prophecies concerning the birth of Jesus in the Old Testament, and there are over thirty, but if you take just eight the odds of those prophecies being fulfilled exactly the way they were given are 1 in 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. God accomplished His Word in Bethlehem that day. God also accomplished another step in the salvation of man, an important step. In order for Jesus Christ to give His life a sacrifice for the sin of man He would have to become a man. Jesus did not have His beginning on that first Christmas day. Jesus Christ is eternal, but He had to become a man to redeem man. I look at the rest of this week and there are a lot of things that need to be accomplished. I am so thankful today for what God accomplished when He gave His Son into this world.
