December 12th, 2016 by Pastor Solley1 Sam 3:1-4 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

Eli was the High Priest, the spiritual leader in Israel, Samuel was a young lad given to the service of the Lord by his parents but by his own free will also I believe. As this account unfolds I wonder if Eli could see the lamp of God was about to go out? There is a deeper meaning to that of course, but that lamp was never to go out. I wonder if Eli was so consumed by other things that he could not see that lamp about to go out? That is at the core of revival, keeping the lamp of God burning in our lives. There are times when we cannot see that it is about to go out, times when it is down to a flicker and the flame needs to tended to. There are times when we can be consumed by other things, even good things, and we cannot see that lamp about to go out, we cannot see it getting dimmer and dimmer. Our lamps need to be cleaned, our wicks trimmed in order for the flame to burn bright. I personally thank the Lord for speaking to my heart yesterday in two messages brought by the evangelist at our church this week. This is a time when we need out lamps to be burning bright. What saddens me is that most professing Christians could care less, they like Eli don’t even see what is happening in their lives. What is the condition of your lamp, or do you even care?
