1 Kings 18:41-46 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

I used this passage of Scripture this morning because it has the word black in it and because this is “Black Friday”. This is one of my favorite days of the year, not because I go shopping because I don’t, but because of the memories it brings to my mind. This was always a day I spent with dad, our special day to get things ready for Monday morning and the first day of deer season in PA. Shoot the guns again, reload some shells, make sure we have everything we will need for the big day of hunting. Dad worked very hard to provide a home for us and when there were days like this I enjoyed them. My grandfather, some cousins, they would be there, we just had a good few days after Thanksgiving and then on Monday and Tuesday. Good memories. What makes them so special is that pap, dad, they knew Jesus Christ as their personal savior, they are in heaven now, they received the greatest blessing possible from Jesus, they received the free gift of salvation provided on the cross, so when I look back I am also looking ahead. Israel is about to receive a great blessing, God is going to send rain after three and one half years of drought, the heaven was black with clouds. I pray this is not lost on you, that God wants to bless you and that first blessing is salvation, I pray you have received Jesus Christ as your savior today. If not, why not look up to heaven, humble yourself before God and look to Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sin and salvation today?
