35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
KJV
I guess the debate and the election still on my mind. Did you realize that God will even hold us accountable for our words? How many times have you said something and as soon as it comes out you wish you could take it back? Our words mater friend, they are remembered by those they are spoken to and by God as well. I can remember words of praise and criticism from many, many years ago. Some are still an encouragement and some still hurt. I have been able to get past some harsh words, forgive those who said them to me if you would, but I still remember them, and they can still hurt when my memory is stirred. We need to be careful what we say, careful about what comes out of our mouths, words do matter and as a Christian our speech needs to be seasoned with salt, our words gracious, even in times of disagreements. God also remembers our words and will hold us accountable for them. I think of this verse almost every time I hear the Lord’s name taken in vain, which is often in this world. Men will be held accountable for their words as well as their actions. I have heard many people say they “Want to go to hell and be with all of their friends”. Some of them have died and most likely received their wish. I wonder if they want to take back those words now?
