Peter 5:1-8 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
KJV
In verse 8 we see the enemy of God, of the Christian, of all men, Satan identified as well as his method of operation. Satan is in truth that roaring lion who does devour many that he finds in this world who are vulnerable to his attack. We have looked at some who are in his sights this past week and there is a listing of different ones in these verses which I will be preaching about on Sunday Lord willing. But with this lion after us, this enemy of our faith, is there any home for the Christian to stand? Yes, there is a great hope in that, a surety that we can stand and we find Him in verse 10. (1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.) In Jesus Christ we can stand, in Jesus Christ we can have victory, in Jesus Christ the enemy can be defeated, praise God! Notice what Christ can do for the Christian and what He has done for all who are given to Him. He can establish us in Him, strengthen us in Him, settle us in Him, even make us perfect or complete in Him. Christ, Jesus Christ is the foe that the enemy of our faith cannot defeat, can never defeat. How foolish is it of man then to trust in any other than Christ?
