1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
KJV
Here we have the enemy identified and his mode of operation as well. Like a lion in the wild Satan is on the hunt, seeking, always seeking one he might overcome and devour. His desire is to destroy the Christian and while he can never take away our salvation in Christ he can take things, he can destroy and devour the Christian. But who is in danger? The right answer is all Christians, but there are times when we are in more danger than others as we can see some of those times in 1 Peter 5. First, when we stand proud we are in danger. (1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time) Pride is something we are warned about many times in the Bible. (Prov 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.) When we become puffed up, when we think we are strong, then the enemy sees an opportunity to attack. I hear many Christian when they become aware of the fall of a brother or sister and the reason for that fall say something along the lines of “That will never happen to me”, or “I would never allow that to happen in my life”. Such pride opens the door for the enemy. I would like to be able to say this or that would never happen to me, or that I would never allow those things in my life, but I realize that never is a long time. It is only by the grace of God that we stand even for an hour my friend. I am sure David never thought he would sin the way he did, never stoop to the level that he did, but pride got the best of David. If that could happen to David then why not us? Be careful about pride, guard against it, for when Satan sees it in our lives he attacks. We will look at another danger tomorrow.
