Rom 1:1-7 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
KJV
What are you called to Be? Paul knew what he was called to be, an apostle. (Verse 1) This call came on the Damascus road when Saul repented of sin and turned to Jesus Christ for the free gift of salvation. From that point on Paul knew what he was called to. Every born again child of God is called to be something as well. We find here in our text we are called to be saints. (Verse 7) That is a very interesting word. The Greek word “Hag-io-is” is found over 200 times in the New Testament and is translated into English “Holy” much of the time. Called to be a saint, called to be holy. It does not mean perfect, does not mean that we will become sinless in this world, but it does tell us what we are to be as Christians. We are called into holiness when we are received into the family of God, when we are born again. This is what has disappeared from much preaching today and the lives of those who claim to know Jesus as their savior. What has disappeared as well is the power of God upon the lives of His children and His blessings. I want to look for a few days at what it is to walk as a saint of God, for today think about what we have been called to be as Christians. Are we walking as a saint, are we holy before God?
