June 30th, 2016 by Pastor Solley1 Thess 4:13-15 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
KJV
The reference to those who sleep or who are asleep in this passage is to those who have died in the Lord. However for the Christian who is alive today it is no time to be asleep. As we get ever closer to the return of the Lord Jesus Christ we need to be more alive, more awake than ever before. We can see that by the way we are commanded and encouraged to be awake and not to sleep in the Bible. If we sleep we may miss the glory of the Lord shining out before us. The Bible tells us that on the mount of transfiguration the disciples were sleepy, they almost missed the glory of the Lord shining out before them. That is a glory we need to be awake to today. In 1 Cor 15 we are commanded to awake unto righteousness. This is the righteousness of Christ and Godly living through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is a righteousness the lost need to see, people changed by the power of God. In Ephesians 5 we are told to awake so we may receive more light. There is no new revelation today, the Bible is a finished book, nothing to be added to taken away from His Worde. But when we are awake we receive more light from the Holy Spirit, not a new light, but a revealing like, a growing in the Lord. There are many reasons we need to be awake today and not to sleep. Another reason tomorrow.
