2 Tim 2:1-5 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
KJV
A good soldier must strive lawfully. (Verse 5) That is he must strive, he must function, he must serve and fight within the ranks and by order. A good soldier will obey orders, will carry out assignments given to him. So must we as Christians serve within the ranks, obey orders, strive lawfully. As a soldier in the Christian army I find my standing orders in the Bible. All I need do is open the book and read the words given to me by the commander in chief. Then I need to apply those words to my life and obey which is the first step in striving lawfully. What is it then to strive? Does not the word imply effort on the part of the soldier? There can be no slackers in God’s army, not if they are going to be rewarded, not if the army is going to go forward as God commands. Let us begin to obey today as a good soldier.
