May 24th, 2016 by Pastor Solley2 Tim 2:1-4 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
KJV
The soldier is made strong in basic training. Whatever branch of the service, basic training makes the soldier strong. The challenge then is for that soldier to remain strong and even grow stronger. Basic is over, not the soldier must take responsibility in staying strong. In our Christian life we begin many times strong in the Lord, not a finished product, but strong in the Lord. We are sure of what we believe, sure of salvation, have a fire for the Lord, and we want to serve Him. The challenge is to remain that way and to grow in Christ, to grow stronger in Him. I have been saved for about 48 years, much has changed in that time. The world has changed, America has changed, I have changed. America is getting darker and darker, deeper and deeper into sin, it is a world of instant this and that, of no standards it seems, and I am older and cannot do what I did at 30 years of age. The challenge is to keep strong in the Lord, grow in Him. How can this be accomplished? By continuing on in the basic things, by continuing on in my basic training. Read my Bible, pray, separate from sin, do the basic things that I have been or should have been doing for the past 48 years of my Christian life. That is what a good soldier does by the way. He continues to run, do the pushups, the sit-ups, practice with his rifle, he continues the things he did in basic training. If you want to remain strong, continue in the basic things.
