Ex 32:1-6 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord.
6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

Israel is known in part for their sins. It should not be but that is true of the people as they came out of Egypt, as God placed them in the Promised Land, as the kingdom was established and on down through the years, Israel is known in part for their sins. There is a pattern found in this chapter that is repeated over and over again in the long history of God’s chosen people. We will look at it this week. This morning we see the opportunity to sin. Moses was in the mountain with God receiving the Law of God, what we often call the Law of Moses. As he was there for a long time the people were presented with the opportunity to sin. Satan is always looking for the opportunity to temp God’s people with sin. (1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour) When Satan see the opportunity sin or the temptation to sin is set before us. (Gen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.) There are times when we make it so very easy for Satan, time when we open and walk through the door to sin. We need to understand that this temptation will always be set before us and we need to resist. (James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.) It seems as if the people and Aaron as well in Exodus 32 put up no resistance to the devil, no resistance to sin. What will you do today when sin has its opportunity, when sin is set before you? Will you resist and remain steadfast in your faith, or will you like Israel in Exodus 32 open the door and walk right through?
