John 17:1-4 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
KJV
In order for the work to be finished it had to begin. (Luke 2:1-7 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.) Here we have the account of the first advent, the first coming of the Lord Jesus Christ into this world. Jesus Christ is like none other that has ever been born in that He was born without a sin nature. Jesus had an earthly other, Mary, but no earthly father, He is the Son of God, God in the flesh. But Jesus still had to live in this world and was still tempted by and with sin. Remember Adam had no sin nature from the start and he fell. Jesus also had to deal with sin while growing up, deal with temptation, deal with all the things we deal with in our lives. Yet Jesus never sinned.
(2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.) The first part of this work involved a sinless life from the time of His birth, and Jesus Christ lived that sinless life. We need to remember that as we go through each day, deal with temptation, deal with sin that so easily besets us much of the time. When we are tempted we need to resist even as Jesus resisted sin and temptation, even as Jesus resisted the devil.
