Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Ps 55:17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
1 Thess 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
KJV

In order to maintain good works the Christian also needs to take the time each day to speak to God. Prayer is more than asking things of God or telling God what you think He ought to do or must do. Prayer is opening your heart to God and talking to Him. Yes, part of that will be requests, but it also will be a time when God is thanked, when God is praised, when we just spend some time with Him. Public prayer before and during services is good, prayer before meals is good, as a pastor I often am praying before people in hospital rooms and in their homes for different needs, that is good. But we also need that time when we can be apart and alone with God, when we can open our hearts to Him and seek His will in our lived. Most often when an individual has forsaken the Bible, when they are not reading His Word, they will also have moved away from prayer. Take the time today to begin to seek God out in prayer.
