Luke 22:45-48 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
KJV
One of the most visible signs of affection is a kiss. We often greet and say goodbye to our children with a kiss, our parents with a kiss, perhaps other close relatives. A kiss seals the marriage contract. Personally I am guarded about the people I kiss. That kiss is reserved for my wife, for my children, for my grandchildren, a kiss is not shared with anyone. When Judas kissed the Lord it was personal, a sign of devotion and love. What a terrible thing it was and is when one is betrayed with a kiss. Jesus knew what was happening and when He said that to Judas Jesus wanted that man to think of what he was doing. Nothing worse that betraying someone with a kiss. A few hours later Judas would be dead at his own hands and I think the way he betrayed Jesus had a lot to do with that. Still there are millions and millions who do the same as Judas did in our day. People who claim to know Jesus, claim to love Jesus, yet betray Him by the way they live their lives, betray Him with a kiss. If Jesus were to stand before you today and you could kiss Him, what would He think of that act? Would Jesus be able to embrace you and receive that kiss of affection and devotion? Or would Jesus say to you what He said to Judas?
