Eph 5:17-21 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
KJV
The evidence of being filled with the Spirit is set before us in these verses. When something is filled in the Bible God must act. The first time the word filled is used concerns the earth being filled with violence and God acting in Geneses. The last time the word filled is used is in the book of Revelation when the wrath of God is filled and God again acts in judgment. When something is filled in the Bible God must act and that includes the believer being filled with the Holy Spirit. I can look into the faces of people, watch them, and know if they are filled with the Spirit of God or not and they can do the same with me. Note in our text the signs of being filled with the Holy Spirit. The individual who is Spirit filled will also be filled with singing and making melody to the Lord. I watch during Sunday services many people set with closed mouths and grim faces while the old hymns of the faith are being sung. There is no filling of the Spirit in that one. When we are Spirit filled we will be filled with thanksgiving to our Lord. I listen to the people of God complain about things, some many things, others everything. Those people are not Spirit filled. When we are filled with the Spirit we are submissive to God as well as to others, our main concern is not self. I look at Christians who are so self consumed they see nothing that God is doing around them and even for them. That one is not Spirit filled. When others look at you do they see any indication at all that you are filled with the Holy Spirit of God?
