1 Kings 19:9-12 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
KJV
Satan will continue his attack on the child of God when we think we need to see something spectacular from God in order to prove His presence with us. God sent a great wind and then an earthquake to Elijah, surely God was in those, but He was not. Perhaps Elijah was looking for such a sign that God was with him and when it did not seem so more discouragement followed. But God was in the still small voice and that is all Elijah needed. We would all like to see spectacular things taking place in our lives, so much so that we often miss the miracles of God that are taking place each and everyday. God did many things for me yesterday, safe travel, safety while working at the church, good visits with some of our older folks, and an opportunity to witness to a gentleman in the hospital. God did many things for me yesterday, many miracles on my behalf and I can’t or shouldn’t overlook them because no mountain was moved or sea parted.
