I would like to apply these verses to the coming New Year this morning, especially verse 8. “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof:” No matter how 2016 begins we can set our sights on the Lord and strive to walk closer to Him this year, to be more faithful to him this year, to be more Christ like this year. What if as a Christians we would press for the mark, for the high calling of Jesus Christ this coming year and end the year saying the end is better than the beginning? There are Christian examples in the Bible but also around us in this world where we can see people growing closer and closer to the Lord and for them the end is better than the beginning. We can also see in the Bible and in life professing Christians falling away from the Lord and certainly the end is not better than the beginning. A vary important spiritual influence in my life was often heard to say, “It is not so much how you begin, but how you end that is important”. The more time that passes the more I see the truth in that statement. What if at the end of 2016 we can say concerning our spiritual walk that the end is better than the beginning. I wonder how many can say that about 2015?
