18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

As Christians we should be like this all year, but one of the joys of the Christmas season is to see how giving many people become. The Bible tells the born again believer in Christ that when we are blessed with this world’s goods that we are to help those who are less fortunate than us. (1 John 3:17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?) I will have people tell me how hard they work for their money and that they feel nothing for others with less because if they worked harder they would have more. That may be true in large part, but in others it is not. One may work hard, but who gives strength for the labor? Who provided the Job? Who prospered them? God does all that, not us. And if God so blesses us, then why not be a help to others? The Bible tells us that if we have no compassion for those in want that the love of God is not in us. It is good to give and many times it is the Christmas season that brings that out in people. How sad that after the season passes the spirit of giving often does as well.
